Pre-Planning Options
Many people plan for life events such as weddings and vacations well in advance, but many people do not plan for something that is certain to happen: what will be done after their passing. While most people do not want to think about their own morality, the time to pre-plan your arrangements is now. The primary advantages of pre-arranging is to relieve the burden on your loved ones in an already emotional time, and to ensure your wishes are carried out, eliminating the task of second-guessing what you would have wanted. Taking the time now to arrange is one less thing your loved ones will need to worry about once you’ve passed. Pre-planning and pre-paying your arrangements is one of the most thoughtful gifts you can give to your family.
Pre-Payment Options
Pre-paying your final arrangements reduces stress and financial burden on your loved ones after your passing. We can co-ordinate a payment plan that suits your needs, from a single payment to monthly payments in whatever amount you choose. By pre-paying you eliminate your family second guessing on if they have spent too much or too little on your arrangements. Pre-payment also protects you and your family from inflation, and the growth is non-taxable. For more information on pre-payment options, please give us a call. Each year thousands of people decide to pre-plan and pre-pay their funeral, these plans are designed to be flexible and can accommodate the many changes that often occur in people’s lives.
Payment Plans
Payment is typically expected at the time of service. By making plans in advance, you can make payments in whatever amount you would like, whenever you like. This saves your family from having to pay the entire bill in full at the time of service and allows you to take care of things at our own pace.
Mortuary Trusts
Maine law requires that any funds received for funeral services in advance of a passing be deposited into a mortuary trust account. This account is held at a bank in the state and the funds can only be accessed with a signed death certificate. Our mortuary trust funds are managed by FAPCO, who is responsible for handling the accounts once the funds have been deposited. They will send occasional notifications, as well as a yearly interest statement for tax purposes at the end of each year.
Benefits of Pre-Planning
- Between 70 and 75 decisions are made within the first 24-48 hours of death. It’s difficult to think rationally while making so many decisions within days of losing someone, pre-planning gives yourself, family and friends peace of mind. Pre-planning gives your loved ones direction of your wants and desires.
- It’s easy. Anyone can do it, and you can change your mind at any time.
