Obituary of Wendy Anne Stevens
Wendy Anne (Chick, Merrill) Stevens, 64 of Lagrange, Maine passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor on November 14, 2025 from congestive heart failure.
She was a wildlife enthusiast and made a career out of rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife, especially racoons. She owned a small Kennebunkport farm with her first husband, Fred Merrill, where she raised chickens, livestock and helped inseminate horses. As a widow, Wendy moved to Springfield, Maine where she met her second husband, Robert Stevens. There she carried on with her wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts. No animal was beyond her love and compassion. Following Robert’s passing she returned to Kennebunkport for open heart surgery. Once recovered she moved to Lagrange where she met numerous friends, including her special friend Tim Penny. Wendy loved fishing, was an amateur photographer, and was a well-known Christmas ornament crafter. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, willingness to help and kind heart.
Wendy was the daughter of Carleton and Janice Chick and was sister to Donna and Steve Chick, all of whom have predeceased her. She is survived by her brother Robert Chick and his wife Pam, and Paul Chick and his wife Cathy, as well as her children with whom she recently reconnected, Joan Marie Grow and Alex Dennison. Additionally, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who have fond memories of Auntie Wendy and her wildlife endeavors.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life is planned for spring with burial to occur in Springfield, Maine.
