Orville Johnson

Obituary of Orville Raymond Johnson

Orville R (John) Johnson, Jr passed into the loving arms of our Lord on July 29, 2025, at our home in Winterport, ME with his wife and family at his side.

John was born in Moline, Il on November 12, 1937, to Eva and Orville Johnson.  He attended schools in Moline, enlisted in the US Navy and served on the NK Perry as an electronics technician.  Later he attended Roger Wiliams College in Providence, RI.

He moved to Seekonk MA, in 1958, where he met and married his wife, Claire M. Waring in July 1960.  They moved to their home in Rehoboth, MA, in 1960 where they raised four sons.  He was very involved in his church, with Boy Scouts of America, coaching baseball and football, raising animals and, of course, helping to raise our four sons.

John worked for many years as a surveyor and especially enjoyed looking up old records and deeds.  In later years, he worked as a negotiator for the State of Maine.

Another move came in July 1988 with their youngest son and lots of help from church family and friends to the wooded lot, that he so enjoyed, in Winterport, ME.  At this time, John, Claire and their youngest son, Matt became part of the family of God at Church of the Open Door in Hampden, now called Discover Church.

John is survived by his wife, Claire and their sons: Steven and wife, Lori; Darryl, wife Nancy and daughter, Nicole; Clayton, wife Deana and their sons David and Steven and Steven’s wife Mila; Matthew, wife Jamie and son, Nathan.  He is also survived by his sisters, Marcia and Sandra; as well as many cousins and friends that we consider family.

Our family would like to thank the staff at St Joseph Hospital, St Joseph Hospice and the Winterport ambulance crew for the loving care they gave to John.

There will be a private celebration of life and then a gathering of friends and family at our home in Winterport in October.
