Obituary of Douglas Scott Hersom
Douglas Scott Hersom, 57, Kingman, Maine passed away on April 4 surrounded by his loved ones. Doug was born in Lincoln to Donald and Dorothy Hersom on September 25, 1967. He attended Lee Academy and graduated in 1985.
A man of few words but a kind and generous spirit, Doug was always ready with a story of his latest adventure or a lesson learned while in nature. He had a deep respect for the traditions of hunting and fishing and was known for his strong connection to the land. Regardless of the season, his love for the outdoors was a constant.
Doug spent his life immersed in nature, finding both pleasure and solace in its quiet moments. From early mornings in the deer blind to quiet afternoons casting a line into his favorite fishing hole, "the Goot," he embraced every aspect of the wilderness. He spent many days camping at West Musquash Lake, fishing, climbing and cutting trees, always delighting in the beauty of nature and wildlife. All of these joys were shared with his beloved companion, his dog Hoyt, who was always by his side.
Douglas Hersom is survived by his two special daughters, Jacy Hersom and Pete Coggins of Orono, and Jessica (Hersom) Situ of Carmel. He is also survived by his sisters, Donna Coglitore and Frank of Bangor, Denise Worster and Rick of Kingman, his brothers, Donald Hersom of Holden, and Darren Hersom of Florida, and his mother, Dottie Hersom, who held a significant place in his heart. Doug is also survived by his long-time partner of 35 years, Sara Delaite of Kingman, and three very special grandsons, Brady, Deagen, and Daxton. He will be missed by special friends Larry and Penny Day of Vanceboro, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold Doug in their hearts. The loss of Doug is deeply felt not only by his family and friends but by the entire town of Kingman, who will miss his kindness, always ready to lend a hand or share a hunting or fishing story.
Doug was predeceased by his father, Donald Hersom, and his children, the twins Matthew and Madison.
Doug leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will live on in those who were fortunate enough to know him.
